This delivery is not only a step towards global environmental goals but marks the beginning of Green Hysland, the flagship project of Southern Europe. Located in the enchanting Balearic Islands, Green Hysland will generate, distribute and locally use at least 300 tons of renewable hydrogen per year, produced thanks to solar energy on the island of Mallorca.

Mallorca’s Sustainable Future

Mallorca, thanks to its strategic location, aspires to become the first hydrogen hub in southern Europe. This state-of-the-art project not only promises to decarbonise the island’s gas supply, but also serves as a replicable model for other islands in the EU and beyond. Through a variety of applications, from powering fuel cell buses to providing auxiliary power for ferries and port operations, the project promises to transform Mallorca into a living example of an integrated island economy based on green hydrogen.

Investing in a Sustainable Energy Future

The project will require a total investment of around €50 million, which includes not only the generation of renewable electricity but also the purchase of equipment for green hydrogen end-uses. In line with the “Hydrogen Road Map,” recently approved by the Spanish government, this investment will help strengthen Spain as a technological benchmark in the production and use of renewable hydrogen, with a production capacity of 4 GW by 2030.
